It was specially designed for colder climate zones (-5°C). Furthermore, the jacket can be worn inside out, so that the indian-orange lining could be used for better visibility in an emergency. This allowed crashed pilots to be located more easily and found quickly by rescue teams. The MA-1 was introduced in 1959 and pilots were equipped with this jacket until 1977. Even Chuck Yeager wore this jacket when he broke the sound barrier. The unique quality is created by 57 perfectly coordinated sewing steps in the production of every single Alpha MA-1.
