It was specially designed for colder climate zones (-5°C). Furthermore, the jacket can be turned inside out so that the indian orange lining can be used for better visibility in an emergency. This made it easier for crashed pilots to be located and quickly found by rescue teams. The MA-1 was introduced in 1959 and pilots were equipped with this jacket until 1977. Even Chuck Yeager wore this jacket when he broke the sound barrier. The unique quality comes from 57 perfectly coordinated sewing operations in the production of every single Alpha MA-1.
